Somewhat unsurprisingly, given that it’s the ultimate club tournament on the planet, the Champions League has served up another dose of action-packed goodness so far this season. We’ve had amazing goals, unforgettable matches, impressive individual performances, angry managers, and a whole lot more. Now, as the competition enters its crucial stages, we’re undoubtedly in for another round of memorable match-ups.

Other sports, such as darts, provide a great deal of drama during a tournament but football events, such as the Champions League, are on another level in terms of the attention it receives. This season has been no different either, especially given the remaining sides left in the competition. There is a rather interesting blend of smaller sides up against bigger clubs, too, providing a set of truly intriguing ties as a result. It’s in this stage of the competition where shocks can be pulled off also, alongside the feeling of normal service being resumed as an underdog story comes to an end due to a resounding battering from a formidable force. Ultimately, though, knowing exactly who to back in a competition packed full of strong sides is a challenge. Still, while there’s a great deal of football left to be played, let’s assess some of the main contenders for the Champions League crown this season.

Real Madrid
Although Real Madrid got off to somewhat of a shaky start this season, the Spanish giants appear to be back to their very best, particularly after seeing off PSG in the last round in an impressive manner. Madrid’s strong form away from home, with three wins, nine goals, and none conceded, has underpinned their progress under Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti this season. With the likes of Karim Benzema leading the line and rising stars such as Vinicius Junior offering additional support, Real Madrid will always be a dangerous side to face.

Liverpool
Another team who could potentially be distracted by a domestic title challenge, Liverpool are well equipped to win Europe’s major prize this season. Jurgen Klopp’s troops are in blistering form at the moment, hence why many people are backing the Reds when it comes to champions league betting in particular. It’s entirely understandable as to why too, as Liverpool are impressively strong as a defensive unit and formidable in attack thanks to the likes of Mohamed Salah. Overall, no team wants to face Liverpool in the knockout stages, and that includes their opponents Benfica.

Bayern Munich
German giants Bayern Munich are always there or thereabouts in the Champions League. The Bundesliga powerhouse is facing a tough challenge against plucky minnows Villarreal, but they appear to be well equipped under new manager Julian Nagelsmann. The tactical nous Nagelsmann is currently displaying should also become even more visible as the campaign progresses, especially against some of the bigger sides should they overcome Villarreal. With Robert Lewandowski leading the line, Bayern will always be strong.
