This past weekend, the PDC made its stop in Budapest for the Hungarian Darts Trophy, where an unknown Danish player stole the spotlight—not with his darts, but with a series of eyebrow-raising antics that had commentators laughing uncontrollably.

The player in question, Andreas Hyllgaardhus, faced Belgian star Kim Huybrechts in a first-round match and quickly became the talk of the tournament. Early in the contest, Hyllgaardhus produced a brilliant double-double finish and celebrated as though he had just won the world title. The problem? It was merely a leg win that still left him trailing 1–3. The over-the-top celebration created an awkward moment and set the tone for what was to come.
The real controversy unfolded in the sixth leg. Huybrechts lined up a 99 checkout via two double 20s but narrowly missed the final dart. Instead of maintaining composure, the 32-year-old Dane burst into laughter—a reaction rarely seen, and widely regarded as unsporting. The commentary booth erupted once again, while Huybrechts’ expression said it all.
Moment 2:
Hyllgaardhus wasn’t finished. After gaining the opportunity to throw for his own double, he hit the winning dart and launched into another prolonged celebration—continuing to shout and cheer even as Huybrechts was already preparing for his next throw.
PDC commentator Paul Nicholson summed up the incident: “Well, the thing is, he is vocal, behind the player when they are adressing the oche. That is grey area.”
Despite the distractions, Huybrechts kept his focus and closed out a 6–2 victory, leaving Hyllgaardhus with the headlines—but not the win.
