We already showed you incredible performances by Danny Lauby and Ron Meulenkamp in the Super Series Bulls-Eye Challenge. This week Mikuru Suzuki was one of the players to play in this serie and so she was also invited to take place in this Challenge. As a former soft tip player the expectations for the Japenese player were high and the end result was bizarre.
Earlier, we witnessed Danny Lauby breaking James Wade’s Guinness World Record. The official record held by The Machine was 15, but the lightning-fast American shattered it with an impressive score of 25.
We also saw Ron Meulenkamp attempt the bulls-eye, and like James Wade, the Dutchman is a left-handed player. He surpassed Wade’s score in an impressive manner, with an even better average than the American who tops the list.
In 2019, Mikuru Suzuki made a strong impression as a debutant at the Lakeside. She convincingly reached the final, facing Lorraine Winstanley. At that time, she was still an unknown face to many, but that would quickly change after that tournament. With an average of 90.12, she won the final to claim the world title in steel-tip darts for women. In one fell swoop, the Japanese player became a sensation in the darting world as we know it in Europe, and to top it off, she came close to another historic achievement.
During the final, she had the opportunity for a 9-darter in the second set. It would not only be a milestone in women’s darts but also for the BDO World Championship as a whole. To this day, only one player has managed to throw a perfect leg in the history of the BDO World Championship. Paul Lim achieved this feat in 1990, earning a whopping £52,000. For comparison, the winner of the championship at that time, Phil Taylor, took home the top prize of only £24,000.
