When the name Cameron Menzies comes up, many darts fans immediately recall the incident at the PDC World Championship where the Scotsman famously lost his temper with a table on stage. This week, Menzies returned to action, but once again found himself in an awkward situation following an incident involving Dutch player Niels Zonneveld.

At Players Championship 5, Menzies began his campaign with a first-round match against Marin Kraft, securing a comfortable 6–3 victory. The German averaged just 77.44, leaving Menzies largely untroubled throughout the contest.

In the following round, Menzies faced Steve Lennon, who produced a solid 91.00 average and provided a much sterner test. The Scotsman rose to the occasion impressively, recording a 104.39 average to claim a convincing 6–1 win over the Irishman.

It was an excellent performance from the former partner of Fallon Sherrock, who recently revealed that he is still dealing with the aftermath of his infamous World Championship outburst. He continues to experience numbness in part of his hand due to significant nerve damage sustained during the incident.

Menzies’ run ended in the last 32, where he faced Dutchman Niels Zonneveld. Zonneveld delivered an outstanding performance, averaging 103.16 — a level that ultimately proved too high for Menzies, who was defeated 6–4. It was after this match that the controversial moment occurred.

The incident could potentially lead to further trouble for Menzies, as both the PDC and the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) have previously expressed their dissatisfaction with such behaviour. While these moments are widely seen as inconsistent with the standards expected of a professional darts player, they have nonetheless become characteristic of Cameron Menzies.

Fans may also remember another notable moment involving Menzies, when he attempted to embrace Vincent van der Voort following a defeat. The tall Dutchman clearly had no interest in the gesture, creating an awkward scene that highlighted the contrasting personalities of the two players in front of both the live audience and television viewers.
