This bizarre moment just happened at the PDC World Darts Championship 2026. The 36-year-old Scot suffered a shock first-round defeat, losing 3–2 to debutant Charlie Manby, and vented his frustration on a table beside the stage at London’s Alexandra Palace.
After the 20-year-old Englishman eventually sealed the victory and approached the net for the customary handshake, the situation escalated dramatically. Menzies repeatedly slammed the underside of the table with force, causing it to collapse.

Referee Kirk Bevins intervened immediately, firmly reprimanding the Scot for his conduct. The Ally Pally crowd made its displeasure clear with loud boos. Realising the seriousness of his actions, Menzies raised his hands in a gesture of remorse and offered an apology, while Manby looked on in visible disbelief during what should have been the crowning moment of his successful World Championship debut.
For Manby, who impressed earlier this year with a record-breaking average on the Development Tour, the victory marked a dream start to his first appearance at the World Championship. Menzies, by contrast—despite strong performances on the Pro Tour this season—was eliminated at the very first hurdle.

It was a shameful moment for the sport to see a player lose control in such a manner after defeat. While the eccentric Scot is no stranger to controversy, this type of incident is, to the best of our knowledge, unprecedented on a professional stage.
Manby, nicknamed “Champagne Charlie” and one of the standout performers on the Development Tour, was visibly enjoying the biggest achievement of his career so far after the match.
“It was absolutely amazing. I wasn’t standing there alone—all the people who travelled with me were there as well,” he said. “I can’t thank them enough. When I won the first set, I settled down. It felt great to play on a stage I’d never experienced before.”
Despite the incident involving Menzies, relief and joy ultimately prevailed for Manby. The young Englishman now looks ahead to continuing his fairy-tale run at Ally Pally, while Menzies exits the World Championship disappointed, leaving the iconic venue through the back door.
