Jonny Clayton played against Krzysztof Ratajski in the first round of the Poland Darts Masters. The Ferret won the fifth leg of the match with a 123 checkout but then this happened…

Jonny Clayton suffered a heavy blow to his confidence on Friday night, as he was unable to recover from a tough start in his opening match at the Poland Darts Masters. The Welshman was sent packing after a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Poland’s own Krzysztof Ratajski, who thrilled the home crowd with a strong performance.

Michael van Gerwen also returned to the stage, securing a 6-4 win over Pero Ljubic. However, the Dutchman’s average of just 84.71 was far from his usual standard, raising eyebrows among fans and pundits alike. Van Gerwen will need to raise his game significantly for Saturday evening’s quarter-final showdown against Rob Cross.

Cross himself will also be looking to improve, having posted a modest average of 85.36 in his first-round match. Both men will be aware that such figures won’t be enough as the tournament moves into its decisive phase.

Interestingly, only four players managed to average over 90.00 in the first round: Luke Littler, Karel Sedlacek, Jonny Clayton, and Krzysztof Ratajski. Remarkably, two of those—Sedlacek and Clayton—have already been eliminated.

Saturday night’s quarter-final line-up promises high drama, featuring the following matchups:

Stephen Bunting vs. Krzysztof Ratajski
Nathan Aspinall vs. Luke Littler
Gerwyn Price vs. Chris Dobey
Rob Cross vs. Michael van Gerwen
The semi-finals and final will follow immediately after, crowning the 2025 Poland Darts Masters champion by the end of the night.

The darting action doesn’t stop there. Next week sees Players Championship events 20 and 21, followed by the Baltic Sea Darts Open over the weekend. All eyes will then turn to Blackpool, where the prestigious World Matchplay takes place from July 19 to 27.
