At the German Darts Grand Prix we have seen a 9-darter by Michael van Gerwen and a 170 checkout by Luke Littler. But neither of those were the best ones as this checkout by Dirk van Duijvenbode beats them in style.

The moment he throws it during his match against Andy Boulton makes it even more impressive. The Dutchman is especially known for his explosive style and energetic walk-ons accompanied by hardcore music.

And when one speaks of a “Dirkje,” many darts players recall the moment he “killed” himself with a 180 at the PDC World Championship in 2016. This happened during his match against Raymond van Barneveld at a crucial moment.

He is also known as “Aubergenius” because, alongside his darts career, he worked in an aubergine (eggplant) nursery — a unique combination that has made him a fan favorite.

One of his most remarkable moments came in 2020 during the World Grand Prix tournament. As an unseeded player, he managed to reach the final — an exceptional achievement, especially given the tournament’s unique format, where players must both start and finish each leg with a double.

Along the way, he defeated big names like Gary Anderson and Simon Whitlock. Although he lost the final to Gerwyn Price, he firmly established himself in the darts world.

Van Duijvenbode has also made his mark on other major stages. He reached multiple quarter-finals and semi-finals in major tournaments such as the European Tour and the Players Championship Finals. His energetic personality, combined with his fast and powerful throwing style, makes him a crowd favorite.

What makes Dirk unique is his resilience. He has come back multiple times from tough periods, during which he lost his PDC tour card or struggled with form. Each time, he fought his way back, showing character and determination.

That same perseverance is needed once again, as he is currently recovering from a shoulder injury.
