On Monday, Players Championship 9 took place with an early-round clash between Dutchman Richard Veenstra and German player Ricardo Pietreczko.
The match did not go well for the German, who was involved in a controversial moment after the defeat—an incident that ultimately proved costly, as seen in the footage.

For Veenstra, it marked the beginning of a strong run. He opened with a convincing 6–1 victory over Pietreczko before facing his compatriot Christian Kist in the next round. Veenstra again impressed, defeating Kist 6–3 to advance to the Last 32.
There, he met former world champion Peter Wright, who struggled heavily with a modest average of 77.86. Veenstra took full advantage, cruising to a 6–1 win.
The next round brought an all-Dutch encounter against Kevin Doets. Despite Doets’ strong recent form, Veenstra prevailed in a deciding leg, edging a tight 6–5 victory to reach the quarter-finals, where he faced Chris Dobey.
In that match, Veenstra’s run came to an end. Dobey proved too strong, allowing “Flyers” just three legs in a 6–3 defeat. Nevertheless, Veenstra finished as the highest-ranked Dutch player of the day—and notably the only non-English player to reach the quarter-finals.
Another standout performance came from Beau Greaves, who also reached the quarter-finals. Her impressive run included victories over players such as Raymond van Barneveld, Marvin van Velzen, Jonny Clayton, and Joe Hunt before she was eventually eliminated by Andrew Gilding, who won 6–3.
The tournament title went to Chris Dobey, who defeated Justin Hood 8–4 in the final. The high-quality contest was reflected in the averages, with Dobey posting 105.28 and Hood 102.91.
Attention now turns to Tuesday, when Players Championship 10 will be played, giving all competitors another chance to claim the day’s honours.
