Richard Veenstra produced the highlight of the evening on the opening day of the Swiss Darts Trophy, delivering a spectacular moment that left both the crowd and his opponent stunned.
Facing Niko Springer, the recent winner of last weekend’s Hungarian Darts Trophy, Veenstra pulled off an extraordinary shot that had fans on their feet. The Dutchman’s brilliance not only created one of the tournament’s most memorable moments so far but also secured his place in Saturday’s session, where he will meet former World Champion Rob Cross.

Veenstra was not the only Dutchman to impress on Friday. His close friend Chris Landman also advanced, defeating Denis Schentzer 6–3 to set up a Saturday evening clash with Stephen Bunting.
A Packed Saturday Line-Up
Saturday promises an action-packed schedule featuring a strong contingent of Dutch and Belgian players.
* Niels Zonneveld opens the afternoon session against Ryan Searle.
* Cor Dekker, the Dutch-Norwegian talent, faces Peter Wright two matches later.
* Mike de Decker meets Krzysztof Ratajski in the fourth match of the afternoon, followed by the eagerly anticipated showdown between Richard Veenstra and Rob Cross.
* Immediately after, fans can enjoy an all-Dutch duel as Gian van Veen takes on Dirk van Duijvenbode, who already overcame compatriot Jitse van der Wal in Friday’s first round.
* Danny Noppert will also feature in the afternoon, going head-to-head with William O’Connor.
The evening session continues the excitement with three more high-profile matches:
* Jermaine Wattimena faces Josh Rock.
* Dutch legend Raymond van Barneveld takes on Damon Heta.
* Finally, Chris Landman returns to the stage for his battle against Stephen Bunting for a place in Sunday’s final rounds.
Edhouse Advances Without Throwing a Dart
In a surprising twist, Ritchie Edhouse has already secured a spot in Sunday’s play without competing on Saturday. His scheduled opponent, Ross Smith, was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to family-related personal reasons, handing Edhouse a free pass to the next round.
With Veenstra’s heroics setting the tone and a host of Dutch and Belgian players still in contention, the Swiss Darts Trophy is shaping up to deliver a thrilling weekend of world-class darts.
