Scott Williams struggled to hide his frustration after losing the Players Championship final to Karel Sedláček.
The Englishman had chances to claim victory but ultimately saw the title slip away. Immediately after the deciding double, Williams produced one of the most eye-catching moments of the final, throwing his darts across the floor in frustration. He is now expected to receive a fine for his actions, as can be seen in the footage.
Williams had opportunities to take control of the final but was unable to convert the crucial chances when they came his way. After Sedláček sealed the victory, Williams still shook hands with his opponent and congratulated him on the win. However, the disappointment quickly became apparent.
Footage shows Williams throwing his darts onto the floor moments after the final had ended. The incident lasted only a few seconds, but it captured the raw emotions of a player who had come so close to winning the title.
The contrast between the two moments made the incident particularly striking. Williams had just shown respect to his opponent by shaking his hand, before allowing his own frustration to get the better of him.
However, Williams later made it clear that his reaction was not directed at Sedláček. Instead, he was angry with himself for failing to take his chances.
“Firstly, let me congratulate Karel on the win. That f***ing boy, what an unbelievable bloke. He absolutely deserves the win,” Williams said.
Explaining his decision to throw his darts, Williams added: “I am not putting that against him in any way, shape or form. I reacted that way because I was disappointed in myself.”
Williams admitted that missed opportunities were the main source of his frustration.
“I was annoyed I missed darts at double. Darts at big numbers. I was really f***ing angry about that,” he said.
The Englishman also promised to speak to Sedláček the next time they meet and apologise for his reaction.
“I will speak to Karel when I see him next, apologise and wish him the best.”
Williams also reflected on the financial side of the defeat, highlighting just how costly those missed opportunities felt.
“I just earned ten grand from that. Awesome. I just missed darts to potentially win £15,000.”
While Sedláček left with the title, Williams was left to reflect on a final that could have ended very differently. His reaction provided an unusually candid glimpse of the emotions involved when a major opportunity slips away.
