David Williams is a darts player known for inviting high-profile names to take part in unique challenges he sets for them. One recent guest was Tai Anderson, the son of two-time world champion Gary Anderson. Tai surprised many by becoming the first player to successfully complete the challenge, as shown in the footage that has since circulated online.
Tai Anderson has long been known primarily as Gary Anderson’s son. He attracted particular attention in the Netherlands when, prior to a match between his father and Michael van Gerwen, he openly admitted to being a fan of the Dutch star. During an interview, Gary Anderson reluctantly—but with good humor—confirmed that this was indeed the case.
The moment became even more memorable when Tai asked Van Gerwen for an autograph during the walk-on and gave him a high-five just before “Mighty Mike” stepped onto the stage to face his father.
Time, however, does not stand still. The young boys are growing up—and they are now throwing darts themselves. After recently seeing Tobias Bunting successfully take on his father and even prove too strong for him, it is now Tai Anderson’s turn to show that he, too, can handle the arrows with real ability. In this case, it is the son of the Scotsman who is beginning to demonstrate genuine talent.
During the 2026 World Championship, Gary Anderson stated with a smile that he intends to retire once his son has taken over the baton by qualifying for the PDC World Championship. Gary’s dream is to face his son on that stage just once—and, as he jokingly put it, give him a sound beating.
After that, his career would be complete, and he could retire with a deep sense of satisfaction. Judging by the recent footage, this scenario no longer seems unrealistic. Tai appears to have inherited his father’s talent and still has several years to develop his game before finding out whether he can truly compete with the sport’s elite.
Earlier this year, father and son already faced each other in competition, with Gary still emerging as the stronger player on that occasion.
