At the European Darts Trophy there was a new face at the stage. Franz Engerer made his debut as a referee and everyone is talking about his 180 sound as he performs it like an Opera singer.

When a new referee makes their debut on the big stage, the question always arises: how will their “180” call sound? Each referee has their own way of announcing the maximum score, and it’s the key to recognizing who is calling on stage.
For example, Russ Bray’s raspy “180” is iconic, and many people immediately think of it when imagining the sound of a 180 call. But the calls of George Noble, Kirk Bevins, and Huw Ware have also become an integral part of the professional darts scene.
The new sound resembles the “singing 180” style, but with a unique twist, adding yet another variation to the collection we already have. During the match between Andrew Gilding and Callan Rydz, the Englishman hit several maximum scores, giving the new caller plenty of chances to showcase their call.
Besides all the well-known referees, we’ve also heard a variety of 180 calls from unexpected names. For instance, Co Stompé once acted as a referee at the Texel Darts Trophy. Since a 180 was hit during the event, we now know how “The Matchstick” sounds when calling it.
And what about Fallon Sherrock? She certainly knows how to hit the maximum score, but she also holds her own with a microphone in hand. She took on the role of caller in the Online Darts League.
